The General Hospital of the City of Vienna – or AKH as the Viennese call it – is so diverse in its offerings that listing everything would exceed the scope of this site. In simple terms, the main tasks of this university hospital, in cooperation with the Medical University of Vienna (MedUni Vienna), are patient care, teaching, and research. The AKH construction lasted from 1964 to 1994, with the gradual commissioning of individual areas starting in 1991. The official opening took place in 1994, and the last university clinic to move was gynecology in 1996 into the new hospital complex between Währinger Gürtel, Lazarettgasse, and Spitalgasse.
